NASA reports that it observed a 500-pound meteor, around two-feet in diameter, which zipped through the Earth's atmosphere above Pittsburgh last night. If you were in the vicinity, you may well have just noticed it. The lump of rock passed by at about 45,000 miles per hour. While it fell from visibility at an altitude of 13 miles, scientists predict that fragments likely fell to the ground east of Kittanning, PA. The video above was captured by one of the black-and-white cameras that makes up NASA's 'All Sky Fireball Network.' Set up by the Meteoroid Environment Office, it's a series of cameras pointing up the night sky across the country, found in schools and other public spaces, that are put in place to record occurrences just like this. Clearly, it's working!
