The UNESCO Peace Ambassador powered by Space Adventures, Ltd., will be fortunate to spend 10 days aboard the ISS. The three person crew of Expedition 44 will depart on a taxi flight aboard Russia’s Soyuz 44. The launch is scheduled on September 1, 2015 from Kazakhstan to the ISS which orbits between 230–286 miles above Earth’s surface. It takes approximately six hours to get to the ISS. Brightman will then board Soyuz 42, on the three and a half hour return flight to Earth on September 11, 2015.
True, there is an old adage that says there is no sound is space. But this is not necessarily true. For one, science has proved that there is sound; it’s just on indecipherably lower vibrations that our human ears cannot pick up. And secondly, aboard the ISS, the modules have been pressurized for human capacity.
However, this will not be an easy feat for the singer, as it is known that the body works somewhat differently in Earth’s lower orbit. Brighton explains, “Because of the way our mucus system works, when you’re up there, you do tend to have a certain feeling like a cold, all the fluids go up to this part of your body – so that I have under consideration, so it’s like singing through a cold. Of course, it’s going to be a very, very different feeling, but I have been told by other astronauts who have done this that it’s perfectly possible, it’s just different, and I have to prepare for it.” With the help of her well qualified ex penning the record, Brighton says, “What I’d love to do is to sing something very simple, and connect with either orchestra, choir, other singers on Earth. And, you know, form that sort of space-to-Earth connection, I would like to create something really beautiful.”
This is astonishing sound accomplishment for the evolution of the human fingerprint. As the Voyager Golden Records sail through interstellar space, Sarah Brighton’s voice will too be heard among the stars. To find out more about Sarah Brightman, visit her sitewww.sarahbrightman.com.
