Privileges and Rights
by AhchWath Ty Battle
You can only have privileges on land that you don’t originally belong
You have rights when your indigenous to the land on which you roam
You can only have privileges when you are foreign to the lands
You have rights if you are the aboriginal and copper colored man
You can only have privileges when you left your homelands behind
You have rights if your from the land where the sun faithfully shines
You can only have privileges when you truly originate from elsewhere
You have rights when your blood is bonded to this lands dragon’s lair
You can only have privileges when you trace your tracks across the seas
You have rights when you are rooted to the soil, atmosphere and trees
You can only have privileges when you are that overstayed bad guest
You have rights when you are from America’s north, south, east and west
You can only have privileges if you had to conquer and sign treatise
You have rights when your ancestors had to endure senseless beatings
You can only have privileges if your history connects you to evolution
You have rights if your families had to defend themselves in revolutions
